In yet another biggest
single-day spike, on Saturday, India broke the 14000-mark of Covid-19 infections after reporting 14,516 Coronavirus positive cases. This took the nation’s
Coronavirus tally to 395,048 as per the Union Health Ministry. The country
reported 375 deaths in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of deaths to
12,948 revealed the ministry’s data. The total number of recovered patients
stands at 213,831 and the active cases tally rose to 168,269. The recovery rate in India rose to 54.12 percent.
Arvind Kejriwal opposes LG Anil
Baijal’s order of scraping home isolation:
On Saturday, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal opposed LG Anil Baijal’s order for Covid-19 patients to compulsory be in a 5-day institutional quarantine. Citing a shortage of healthcare staff, Kejriwal said that the compulsory quarantine will make people evade testing which will eventually increase the spreading of the virus. Scrapping the order, Kejriwal said that if the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) is allowing home isolation across the country then why separate rules were being implemented in the national capital.
WHO – “New and Dangerous phase
of Coronavirus is here”:
World Health Organization chief Tedros
Adhanom Ghebreyesus in
a virtual press conference said that the world is into a new and a dangerous
phase of the Coronavirus pandemic and warned the people of the pandemic still
being a major threat. The WHO chief admitted that the virus is still
spreading rapidly and the world must take proper safety measures so as to
contain the deadly virus.
Globally, over 8.66 million
people have been infected with the virus with more than 460,000 deaths.
