India vs Pakistan Women’s ODI World Cup Clash Set for October 5 in Colombo

The 2025 ICC Women’s ODI World Cup is set to commence on September 30, with hosts India playing the tournament opener against Sri Lanka at the iconic M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. One of the most anticipated fixtures of the tournament, the India vs Pakistan clash, will take place on October 5 at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

This marquee clash between arch-rivals India and Pakistan will be played at a neutral venue under a hybrid hosting model agreed upon by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). The arrangement comes in light of ongoing diplomatic tensions between the two nations, which have also impacted the men’s Champions Trophy schedule for 2025. India will not travel to Pakistan for that event and is expected to play its matches in Dubai.

India’s group stage matches will be spread across two primary venues—Bengaluru and Colombo. Apart from facing Sri Lanka and Pakistan, India will also take on Bangladesh on October 26 in Bengaluru and defending champions Australia, adding further intrigue to their round-robin campaign.

Pakistan, who qualified for the tournament through the World Cup qualifiers held earlier this year in Lahore, will play all of their group matches in Colombo. Their schedule includes games against Bangladesh (October 2), England (October 15), New Zealand (October 18), South Africa (October 21), and Sri Lanka (October 24), in addition to the highly anticipated fixture against India.

Meanwhile, defending champions Australia will begin their title defence on October 1 against New Zealand in Indore. The Aussies will then face Pakistan in Colombo on October 8 and meet England for a blockbuster rematch of the 2022 final on October 22 in Indore.

The 2025 tournament will follow the same format as in 2022, with eight teams competing in a round-robin league stage, followed by two semi-finals and a final. A total of 28 league matches will be played across five venues: Bengaluru, Indore, Guwahati, Visakhapatnam, and Colombo.

The first semi-final is scheduled for October 29, to be hosted in Guwahati or Colombo depending on whether Pakistan qualifies. The second semi-final will take place in Bengaluru on October 30, with the final slated for November 2. The final venue will also be determined based on the teams involved.

This marks the first time since 2013 that India is hosting the Women’s ODI World Cup, promising high-octane action and global attention. Notably, the West Indies failed to qualify for the tournament, edged out by Bangladesh on net run rate during the qualifiers.
