India records 6,977 new COVID-19 cases becoming the 10th worst affected nation in the world.

Domestic flight travel resumes as Coronavirus cases sore to 1,38,845 and death toll rises to 4,021.

India for a fourth consecutive day reported over 6000 new COVID-19 cases as a total of 6,977 fresh infections were registered in the last 24 hours. This is again the biggest single-day spike in the number of cases as has been the case for the past seven days. According to the Union Health Ministry, India’s Coronavirus tally has climbed to 1,38,845 and the death toll has gone up to 4,021 as a total of 154 deaths were reported yesterday.

The recovery rate in India again increased, standing at 41.57% as 57,720 patients have recovered from the fatal virus and one patient has migrated, as per the Union Health Ministry’s data. 

Maharashtra reported 58 deaths out of the 154 in the last 24 hours, while Delhi’s (30) and Gujarat’s (29) combined deaths registered were 59. Out of the 4,021 total fatalities, Maharashtra has reported 1635 deaths, Gujarat is second with 858 deaths. Maharashtra’s Covid-19 tally brushed pass the 50,000 mark as the total number of cases stood at 50,231 as it also breached the 3000 single day cases mark. Cases in Mumbai breached the 30,000 mark as it’s tally rose to 30,251 with a record-breaking 1725 cases reported yesterday in the island city. 

After two months of lockdown, domestic flights resumed their operations on Monday as hundreds of anxious passengers lined up covering their faces with masks. Thermal scanning and social distancing norms were followed diligently. Many flights were also scheduled owning to West Bengal’s and Andhra Pradesh’s decision to not allow any domestic travel. Maharashtra also was reluctant to re-start domestic flights but has allowed only a select few flights to take-off. 

India has become the 10th worst affected nation due to Coronavirus pandemic in the world as it leapfrogged Iran, who has 1,35,701 confirmed cases. Over 5.4 Million people have been infected throughout the world and more than 3,45,000 people have succumbed to death due to this fatal virus.
