India registers its biggest single-day COVID-19 tally with 69,652 new cases.

India’s Coronavirus tally goes past 28-lakh, death toll at 53,866; Recovery rate rises to 73.90 percent.

Till 9 am on Thursday, India reported its biggest single-day surge in the number of COVID-19 infections and registered nearly 70,000 new cases. In the last 24 hours, India reported 69,652 new Coronavirus cases which took the country’s tally to over the 28-lakh mark. As per the latest data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Affairs total infections to date in the nation are 28,36,926, and the country also reported new 977 deaths in a single day, which increased the death toll to 53,866.  

Recovery rate improves:

Despite the spike in new infections, India is witnessing a positive indication in terms of the recoveries. The total number of recovered patients’ tally in the country increased to 20,96,664. The tally of active Coronavirus cases also rose to 686,395, meaning that the recovery rate of India improved to 73.90 percent. Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) on Thursday, said that over 9.18 lakh samples were tested in the last 24 hours. ICMR further reported that the cumulative total of samples tested for the fatal virus reached over 3.26 crore.

West Bengal breaches 3000 daily cases for a sixth-consecutive day:

On Wednesday, West Bengal reported 3169 new coronavirus cases, which took the state’s tally to 125,922. This means that for a sixth-consecutive day, daily infections in the state were above 3000. The state also reported 53 deaths in the last 24 hours, rising the death toll to 2581. West Bengal will begin its rigorous bi-weekly lockdown from today. The government was questioned by many for the hard lockdown for two days, but the state said that as per a study by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bengaluru, staggered lockdowns would help enhance the results. 

Global Coronavirus tally rose to over 22.3 million with more than 784,000 deaths.
