In the highest single-day surge in Coronavirus
cases, India reported new 442 fatalities, raising the death toll to 18,655.
Till Saturday 8 am, India
reported over 22,000 fresh COVID-19 cases in the highest-single day spike in the
number of cases. In the last 24 hours, India has registered 22,771 new COVID-19
infections, which has taken the overall Coronavirus count in the country to 648,315. After
breaching the 20,000-mark, India had registered daily cases in the range of
18,000 to 19,000 for 3-4 days before breaching 20K cases yesterday. It is a
second consecutive day with over 20K cases. India also had a huge surge in the
number of daily deaths, with as many as 442 patients dead, which increased the
death toll in the nation to 18,655, as per the data of the Union Health
Ministry.
The number of recoveries has been steadily increasing with 394,226 patients discharged and one migrated. India’s active coronavirus cases increased to 235,433, meaning that the recovery rate (compared to yesterday) has improved to 60.80 percent.
ICMR says over 95 lakh samples
have been tested:
The Indian
Council of Medical Research (ICMR)
on Friday, revealed that a cumulative total of 95,40,132 samples have been
tested, till July 3. As part of large-scale testing in the country, ICMR said that on Friday, a whopping number of
242,383 samples were tested and efforts are being made to increase the testing
capacity of the country.
Tamil Nadu overtakes Delhi:
Tamil Nadu became
the second-worst affected COVID-19 state in India after its tally reached
102,721. The southern-state overtook Delhi, which has 94,695 cases. Maharashtra, however, leads the chasing pack with 192,900
infections. The situation in the three states is yet not improving.
Global cases breached the 11
million mark and the death toll over 524,000.
