India’s Coronavirus tally rises to over 29.75 lakhs,
with nearly 70,000 infections in the last 24 hours.
Till 9 am on Saturday, India
witnessed its biggest single-day spike in total COVID-19 cases and registered nearly 70,000 infections
on a single day. With new 69,878 Coronavirus cases, the country’s total caseload increased
to over 29.75 lakh, at 29,75,702. Cases in India have been the highest in the
world in the last 18 days, even more than the US, and Brazil, which have a
higher total count. Daily deaths due to the fatal virus continued to remain
above 900 and in the last 24 hours, fresh 945 deaths were registered in the
country, taking the death toll to 55,974.
Recovery rate gushes past 74
percent:
The total number of active coronavirus cases stands at 697,330 and a tally of 22,22,578 patients have recovered from the deadly disease, as per the latest data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Affairs. The ministry further revealed that the Case Fatality Rate (CFR) in the country dropped to 1.87 percent, and the recovery rate improved to 74 percent. Yesterday, a record of 62,282 patients were cured and declared Corona-free, and only 23.82 percent of cases in the nation are active.
WHO hopes of getting rid of the
coronavirus pandemic in less than two years:
On Friday, World Health
Organization (WHO)
chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, from the WHO’s headquarters in Geneva,
revealed to reporters that they hope to get rid of the novel COVID-19 pandemic
in less than two years, which is faster than it took to get rid of the Spanish
flu. He insisted that looking at the rate of spreading of the coronavirus; it
should be possible to tame the fatal virus faster than the Spanish flu pandemic
in 1918.
