India reports over 45,000 infections, COVID-19 tally zooms past 12-lakh mark.

Major rise in the number of Coronavirus infections and deaths with a record-high 1129 deaths in a single day.

India on Thursday, zoomed past the 12-lakh mark COVID-19 infections, as fresh 45,720 Coronavirus infections were reported in the last 24 hours. This is the biggest single-day count in the nation which has taken the tally to 12,38,635. Fatalities in the country also surged to a record high, with 1129 deaths in just 24 hours, due to coronavirus. India’s death toll rose from 28,732 to 29,861 in a day, as per the data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. 

 Pune records 2,111 COVID-19 cases:

 With a huge spike in India’s cases, many cities witnessed a spike, with Pune reporting 2111 new infections yesterday. Pune reported over 700 more cases than Mumbai yesterday, with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation reporting 1310 new infections. Maharashtra remained the worst-affected COVID-19 state in India with 337,607 total cases. 

WHO says Coronavirus vaccine won’t be available before early 2021:

World Health Organization (WHO) on Wednesday, said that researchers are making “good progress” with Coronavirus trials. Expert Mike Ryan, head of WHO’s emergencies programme, said that they are making good progress, but the vaccine’s first use cannot be expected until early 2021. Ryan also said that several vaccines are in phase 3 trials and all have succeeded in terms of generating an immune response. 

Over 15 million people have been infected in the world with the Coronavirus, with more than 8.6 million recoveries and 6.2 million fatalities.
