India Warns Pakistan Over Ceasefire Violations Amid Rising Tensions Post-Pahalgam Attack

In the wake of the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 26 tourists, tensions have escalated sharply between India and Pakistan. On Tuesday, the Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMOs) of both countries held a crucial conversation via a hotline to address recent and repeated ceasefire violations by the Pakistan Army along the Line of Control (LoC).

According to defence sources, India issued a strong and unequivocal warning to Pakistan during the call, expressing serious concern over unprovoked cross-border firings. The violations, which had until recently been concentrated along the LoC, have now extended to the International Border, raising alarm within Indian defence and security circles.

The situation took a grave turn late Monday night when Pakistani troops reportedly opened fire along the International Border in the Pargwal sector of Jammu. This marked a significant escalation, as such incidents on the International Border are relatively less frequent compared to those on the LoC.

In response, the Border Security Force (BSF) deployed additional personnel to the region. Indian forces responded swiftly but in a calibrated manner to the Pakistani aggression, in line with established protocols. Defence officials said that Army personnel in the affected sectors provided a detailed briefing to India’s DGMO about the ongoing situation and cross-border activities.

The latest instances of firing have been reported from the Naushera and Sunderbani sectors in Rajouri district, Akhnoor in Jammu, and the Baramulla and Kupwara districts in Kashmir. These areas have seen a noticeable uptick in ceasefire violations since the Pahalgam terror incident.

Indian military sources suggest that Pakistan’s recent actions may be linked to fears of an imminent retaliatory strike by India. Reports indicate that the Pakistani military has begun preparing for a potential Indian response. Both the Pakistani Army and Navy have reportedly been placed on high alert. Notably, the Pakistan Air Force has reduced its flying operations by over 50%, restricting itself to essential missions to avoid misinterpretations in the already tense airspace.

A Pakistani federal minister has further fueled speculation by publicly stating that the country is expecting an Indian military strike within the next 24 to 36 hours. Indian officials, however, have remained tight-lipped about any such plans.

The April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, where terrorists opened fire on civilians enjoying the scenic Baisaran meadow, has triggered widespread outrage across India. The government has blamed Pakistan-based terror groups for orchestrating the massacre and has vowed to hold the perpetrators accountable.

Tuesday’s DGMO-level hotline communication is being viewed as a last diplomatic attempt to prevent a further slide into open conflict. Defence experts believe that while both nations have maintained back-channel communication lines, the situation remains volatile and could spiral quickly if ceasefire violations persist.

India has reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace along the borders but has also made it clear that any further provocation will be met with firm military and diplomatic responses.
