The C-295s will supplant the IAF’s armada of maturing Avro-748 planes.
Airbus Defense and Space and Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) will execute the venture to furnish the aviation based armed forces with the new vehicle aeroplane under the ‘Make in India’ drive in the aviation area.
Airbus will supply the initial 16 aeroplanes in flyaway condition while the leftover 40 will be collected in India by Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL), as recently detailed by HT.
The Avro substitution project was in progress for around ten years.
The guard obtaining committee agreed to its acknowledgement of need (AoN) to supplant the Avro planes with 56 new aeroplanes in 2012. Under India’s safeguard obtainment rules, AoN by the board is the initial move towards purchasing military equipment. The Avro-748 entered administration in the mid-1960s and has been long due for substitution.
