India’s Covid-19 tally reaches 1,58,333; PM Modi reviews power sector.

PM Modi suggests state-specific solutions needed for the power sector’s problems; 4531 fatalities till date recorded in India.

As per the Union Health Ministry India reported 6566 fresh Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the nation’s Coronavirus tally to 1,58,333 including 4531 deaths. The Union Health Ministry also revealed that a total of 67,691 patients have recovered from the deadly virus and have been discharged. This takes the coronavirus recovery rate to 42.75%, which shows an improvement. Though India became the fastest doubling rate nation per 100000 cases. India witnessed 100000, cases in the last 14 days, which is staggeringly quick. 

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reviewed the power sector and emphasized on the need to enhance consumer satisfaction. He also believes in increasing operational efficiency and an improvement in the financial sustainability of the power sector. PM Modi, while reviewing the sector, pointed out the problems, especially in electricity distribution segment that vary across the states. He urged the ministry to make specific solutions to incentivise each state to better its performance instead of the repetitive one-size-fits-all solution. 

Many industries’ economy has plagued due to the global pandemic and now it has been revealed that a total of 122 million Indians were forced out of jobs in the month of April. The economic crisis piles on just like the daily coronavirus cases. The total number of coronavirus positive cases in Maharashtra police have risen to 2095 with 22 causalities. Maharashtra is the worst affected state with cases reaching 54,758 with 1,792 deaths.

Globally, the United States crossed a numbing milestone in the coronavirus pandemic with 100,000 deaths. This number is astounding as it was revealed that fewer Americans died in the Vietnam and Korea wars combined than those who died due to the highly contagious virus. 

Around 56,95,155 infections have been registered around the globe with more than 3,55,688 dying.
