Ravi Bishnoi idols Shane Warne, but there is no similarity between his bowling action and approach to the Australian legend.
His action includes a bit of Anil Kumble, and some Rashid Khan. While Warne was a classic leggie, Bishnoi has more hustle during releases like Khan, and a longer run like Kumble
Like Kumble — his head coach for Kings XI Punjab — Bishnoi too started as a medium pacer.
“The Jodhpur coaches once saw me casually without run-up bowling leg-spin they were impressed and told me I was supposed to try this. I’ve worked hard and got better on it. So, in a run-up to a medium pacer, the leg-spin is mixed, “he says
Bishnoi performance in the U-19 world cup:
Bishnoi, was last seen in the U-19 World Cup where he took the maximum number of wickets, on the slow UAE wickets, could become a key weapon for KXIP. He will compete with leggie Murugan Ashwin for a spot in the eleven playings.
The left-arm spinner J Suchith of Karnataka is the other spinner who takes away the ball, but he is more conventional. Bishnoi does not just depend on his leg-spin.
In the youth world cup, he often surprised batsmen with googlies. While the wrong ‘unscripted his success story there, he has been advised by some experts to focus on his leg spinners.
Bishnoi has just the right contact point in Kumble to decide what his stock ball should be, and how often he should bowl the googly.
“My talks with him to date have been about reading match situations because the stage is going up a little bit. Try to hit areas which would work better, “he says.
“I worked on my leg spinners, and my deliveries varied in pace. I’ll be using google when it’s required.”Bishnoi’s to-do list includes mastering the flippers with Kumble. A bonus for his Rs 2 Crore IPL contract has Kumble by his side.
“I’ve seen his ten wickets on YouTube so many times against Pakistan. And, He’s here now. It’s like a dream come true —- where I was, and with him now I’m bowling, “he says.
Bishnoi had planned to keep the tempo going in the summer-IPL after his four-wicket haul in the U-19 World Cup final that India lost, and aimed to break into the India team within a year.
“It was a setback, but for everyone, it’s the same. The goal is yet to deliver in the IPL. It’s a big stage the world is watching, including the selectors.
Utilize the lock downtime:
uring the lockdown, Bishnoi watched lots of IPL reruns. “I have watched for enjoyment earlier.
Now I look at which player is performing, and how, the strengths and weakness of the player, how the bowler is delivering, the areas he hits.
I watch the matches much more closely and thinking the same situation what I would have done differently.
Bishnoi has done his homework and is ready to make a mark.
Any highly prized scalp that the 20-year-old targets in his first IPL? “I’m going to take whatever comes. But yes, I want Steve Smith out. He’s the No1 Test batsmen, and he’s very good at playing spin.
