IPL 2022 Auction: Why Franchise did Not select Suresh Raina

IPL 2022 Auction: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) CEO Kasi Viswanath explained why the franchise did not pursue Suresh Raina, who ultimately went unsold.

Suresh Raina, a legend in the Indian Premier League, went unsold during the two-day IPL auction 2022. Many fans were taken aback, given Raina’s stellar performances for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) over the years. In his first stint, the 2011 World Cup winner played for CSK from 2008 to 2015. From 2018 to 2021, he played for CSK once more. With 5,528 runs from 205 games, he is also the fourth-highest run-scorer in IPL history.

“For the past 12 years, Raina has been one of CSK’s most consistent performers. So, of course, not having Raina was difficult for us. But you should also understand that team composition is determined by the form and type of team that any team wishes to have “, he explained.

“That’s one of the reasons we thought he might not fit into this team,” he continued.

CSK paid Rs 14 crore for Deepak Chahar during the IPL 2022 auction in Bengaluru. Making him the most expensive Indian bowler in tournament history.

The franchise also repurchased Ambati Rayudu, Dwayne Bravo, and Uthappa for a total of Rs 6.75 crore, Rs 4.40 crore, and Rs 2 crore, respectively.

The CSK CEO also appeared to be disappointed at not re-signing Faf du Plessis. Who was instrumental in Dhoni’s team winning the title last season. Instead, Royal Challengers Bangalore purchased the South African.

“We will miss him; we will miss Faf, who has been with us for the last decade,” he said, explaining the process and dynamics of the auction.
