Iran drops India from Chabahar rail project; Congress attacks the government.

Iran-China strategic partnership deal worth $400 billion saw India dropped out of the project, Congress deems it “a big loss”.

After it became clear on Tuesday, that Iran-China strategic partnership worth $400 billion resulted in Iran dropping India from the Chabahar port rail project, the Congress attacked the centre and labeled it as a “big loss”, and raised questions on the diplomatic tactics of the government. Iran alleged that the Indian government’s delay in funding of the project led to India’s dismissal from the project.

Congress attacks the Modi-led government after Iran dropped India from the Chabahar rail project:

Senior Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi tweeted the report and hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi by showing his discontent on India being dropped from Chabahar Port deal, saying that it is the diplomacy of the Modi government that won them many laurels even without completing the work. He further said that China worked quietly and offered a better deal. However, he feels it was a loss for India. But anyway one can’t ask any questions.

Is Iran-China $400 billion 25-year-deal, the reason behind India’s ousting?

The report reveals that Iran had decided to proceed with the construction of a rail line, along the border with Afghanistan, from Chabahar port to Zahedan, on its own after accusing the Modi government of delays in starting & funding the project. This comes on the back of a 25 year deal between Iran and China which hints at the cold war between India and China is on.

Congress saw this as a diplomatic loss:

Chabahar, located 72 kilometers west of Pakistan’s Gwadar port, held immense economic and strategic significance for India, where Iran signed an agreement for the rail project with India four years ago. Many Congress spokespersons highlighted this diplomatic loss on Tuesday.
