Irfan Pathan says that his points of view are always as an Indian.

After Tuesday’s controversial statement by Irfan Pathan that said one could also be racially abused due to one’s religion, the former cricketer stood by his words and said “I will not stop”.

On Wednesday, India’s former all-rounder, Irfan Pathan, stood by his previous statement which said that a person could also face racist abuse on the basis of one’s religion and that racism is not just restricted to the skin colour of a person. He told PTI that it was an observation and he didn’t think that anyone could deny it.

“I will not stop” – Irfan Pathan:
Well, a section of internet users did deny it. They trolled the 35-year-old for comparing racism with religion; many also believed it to be an insensitive comment. The cricketer on Wednesday, wrote another message on Twitter and said,” My opinions are always as an Indian and for India, I will not stop.”

After George Floyd’s killing due to police brutality, many international cricketers have come out and given their thoughts on the issue of racism in the game. Former West Indies captain, Darren Sammy, created a stir on social media after stating that when he was part of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) team in the Indian Premier League 2013 and 2014, he was racially abused by some of his colleagues and teammates during the two seasons. Irfan Pathan was part of the 2014 SRH team and he said that he was unaware of such incidents. Pathan said that cricketers from South India have to face chants based on their appearance when they travel up north in domestic cricket. Pathan admitted that real issue is education or lack of it.
