Jaat Box Office Day 2: Sunny Deol’s Film Struggles, Collects ₹16.5 Crore

Director Gopichand Malineni’s Bollywood debut, Jaat, starring Sunny Deol, seems to be off to a rocky start at the box office. Despite the pre-release buzz and anticipation surrounding the film, Jaat has managed to collect only ₹16.5 crore nett in India over its first two days.

The film released in theatres on April 10 and opened to mixed reviews from both critics and audiences. While Day 1 collections were somewhat encouraging, with the film earning ₹9.5 crore nett, the numbers dipped slightly on Day 2, bringing in just ₹7 crore nett.

Box Office Collection (India Nett):

  • Day 1 (April 10): ₹9.5 crore
  • Day 2 (April 11): ₹7 crore
  • Total (2 Days): ₹16.5 crore

Despite its slow start, the film is now relying heavily on weekend footfall to gain momentum. Trade experts suggest that if Jaat doesn’t pick up pace over Saturday and Sunday, recovering its massive budget might prove to be a major challenge.

Regional Performance & Occupancy

According to box office tracking platform Sacnilk, Jaat witnessed better occupancy during evening and night shows, especially in urban centres. The film is reportedly performing reasonably well in NCR, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Chandigarh, and Lucknow, where it has managed to pull in the mass audience segment.

However, in several other parts of the country, Jaat is yet to gain traction. With fierce competition from ongoing releases and IPL matches affecting footfall, Jaat faces an uphill task.

About the Film

Jaat is a mass masala action entertainer that brings together Sunny Deol and Randeep Hooda in lead roles. The supporting cast includes Saiyami Kher, Regina Cassandra, and Jagapathi Babu. The film marks the Bollywood debut of Telugu director Gopichand Malineni, known for his action-packed Telugu blockbusters.

Backed by Mythri Movie Makers, People Media Factory, and Zee Studios, Jaat has reportedly been made on a massive budget of around ₹100 crore. The technical crew includes music composer Thaman, cinematographer Rishi Punjabi, and editor Navin Nooli.

Outlook

While the opening wasn’t as strong as expected, Jaat still has a shot at redemption over the weekend. Strong word-of-mouth in regional pockets could help push collections higher, but it remains to be seen if that will be enough to match its scale and budget.

With stiff competition ahead and only a narrow window to impress audiences, Jaat needs a solid turnaround to stay in the box office race.
