KL Rahul Makes History with Century at Niranjan Shah Stadium

India’s KL Rahul has etched his name in cricket history by scoring an unbeaten 112 in the 2nd ODI against New Zealand at Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot. This remarkable innings not only helped India reach a competitive total of 284/7 but also set a new world record for the highest individual score at this venue.

Rahul’s Rescue Act Saves India’s Innings

The Indian opener came to the rescue after early wickets derailed India’s batting lineup. With Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and captain Shubman Gill falling cheaply, Rahul shouldered the responsibility and delivered a masterclass in batting. His unbeaten century is his eighth in ODI cricket, showcasing his consistency and ability to perform under pressure. The knock demonstrates Rahul’s crucial role in India’s middle order as a stabilizing force during critical moments.

Record Surpasses De Kock’s 2015 Mark

Rahul’s 112 surpassed South Africa’s Quinton de Kock’s previous record of 108, which stood since 2015. Additionally, Rahul became the first Indian player to score a century at Niranjan Shah Stadium, a distinction that highlights his significant contribution to Indian cricket. Steve Smith (98) and Mitchell Marsh (96) are among other notable scorers at this ground.

With New Zealand needing 285 runs to win, India now has an excellent opportunity to clinch the series 2-0 and take an unassailable lead in the three-match ODI series.
