Key takeaways:

  • India marks 75th Army Day today, i.e. January 15 2023.

India marks Army Day on January 15 every year to celebrate the triumphs of the foremost Indian Commander in Chief of the Indian Army — General (after Field Marshal) K.M. Cariappa.

On this day, Cariappa, who directed Indian forces to win in the 1947 war, took over the power of the Indian Army from General Sir FRR Bucher, the final British Commander-in-Chief, in 1949 and became the foremost Indian Commander-in-Chief of Independent India.

Army Day is observed every year to praise Cariappa and the defence armies.

Take a look at what India’s PM, Shri Narendra Modi, has to say on Army Day:

As part of an initiative to bring significant events to other regions of the nation, away from the national capital region, the 75th Army Day is to be celebrated in Bengaluru this year.

The move aims to bring about the increased visibility of these occasions and ensure greater attention from the locals.

The parade on Army Day will start with a garland ceremony by Chief of Army Staff General Manoj Pande at the Madras Engineer Centre War Memorial. Gen. Pande will then check the Army Day parade. COAS unit sources will again be awarded to crews for their outstanding performance.
