Grahankakar Khan, president of Surdam Dried Fruit Market in Kandahar, Afghanistan, said that the entire economy has come to a standstill with the Taliban rule in Afghanistan.

Drought prices in India have risen by 10 to 15 per cent due to the closure of all roads and airports. Ahmedabad-based trader Hiren Gandhi said trade between India and Afghanistan is estimated at 1.5 billion a year. India imports asafoetida, figs, apricots, almonds, pistachios and grapes from Afghanistan. Every year, India imports an average of 100 million worth of goods from Afghanistan.

Hirenbhai said that as banks are closed, Indian traders cannot pay the rest, and goods do not come from there. However, 17 trucks have left for India from Afghanistan carrying dried fruits of traders who had made the full payment.

Trade associations have held discussions with the mechanism to turn over the banks to keep the economy running. Indian merchants who make advance payments to Afghan merchants will have their goods shipped when the rest of the payment is sent.
