Liverpool becomes the Champions of the Land.

Liverpool became the first club in English League history to win a title this fast, with 7 games to spare.

On Thursday night, Liverpool Football Club ended their 30-year wait for a league title as they clinched their first Premier League crown to make it 19 league titles for the Merseyside.

The defending champions, Manchester City, had to defeat Chelsea away at the Stamford Bridge in London, so as to be in sights of the 2019-20 title. But Man City, failed, losing 2-1 to a spirited Chelsea side. The blues went ahead with a fine goal from Pulisic before Kevin De Bruyne leveled things up with an outside free-kick. But Fernandinho’s deliberate hand-ball inside the box, assisted by VAR, gave Chelsea a penalty and Fernandinho was shown a red card. Brazilian play-maker, Willian converted the spot kick meaning City had to score twice, to remain in the hunt for the title. The 10-men City side managed by Pep Guardiola failed to do so and surrendered the title to a Liverpool side who have lost just one game in 31 matches and draw 2.

Chelsea also helped their cause of making it into the Top 4 and now sits 5 points above Manchester United and 2 below Leicester City who are third. Liverpool won the league for the first time after 1990 and the celebrations broke out in the red half of the Merseyside with some fans coming down to the club’s home stadium, Anfield. Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, social distancing measures were to be followed by the fans, some of whom blazed red-flares.

Jurgen Klopp gets emotional:

Liverpool’s dominant campaign is also attributed to their manager, Jurgen Klopp, who has transformed a mid-table side to a title-winning side. Klopp, after winning the title, felt emotional and hailed the winning moment as incredible. Klopp said,” I have no real words, this is for Kenny (Dalglish), for Stevie (Gerrard) and for the fans.”
