On Sunday morning, at least 11 persons were killed as well as several others were injured after a gas leak event in the Giaspura region of Punjab’s Ludhiana district.

Eight people were transported to the civil hospital dead, including two men, four women, and two children.

Shambhu Narayan of Jamalpur stated his 40-year-old nephew Kabilash Kumar and his wife Barsha Devi, as well as their three children, Kalpana (16), Abhay Narayan (12), and Aryan (9), were killed in the event.

Ram Murat, a local, said Saurav Goyal, 28, and his wife Triti Goyal, as well as his brother Gaurav Goyal, his mother, and an eight-month-old kid, were trapped in the gas leak. The child is safe, but the couple and mother have perished. Gaurav’s health is critical.

The area contains a lot of shops and is primarily populated by factory workers. The leak in the early morning hours harmed three businesses: Goyal Cold Drink, Kamal Kiryana, and Arti Clinic. The owners’ families live on the first floor, while the businesses are on the ground floor.

According to Deputy Commissioner Ludhiana Surabhi Malik, a chemical is suspected of having reacted in manholes. “Samples were collected from manholes in the area because neurotoxins are suspected to have caused the fatalities,” Malik said.

“Extracting samples from manholes for various types of chemical tests.” Then, if possible, we’ll gather more information. The gas has been diluted, but MC and PPCB personnel are looking to see if other such chemical reactions are in the area, she added.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann described the occurrence as “heartbreaking,” adding that every available assistance is being provided.

“The gas leak incident in Ludhiana’s Giaspura locality is extremely horrifying. Teams from the police, district administration, and the NDRF are on the scene. “Every possible assistance is being provided,” Mann stated in a Punjabi tweet.
