Rahat Indori had
taken to his Twitter earlier in the day to announce him being COVID-19 positive
and being admitted to a hospital, before passing in the evening.
Renowned Urdu poet and
lyricist Rahat Indori passed away at the age of 70, two days after
testing positive for the novel COVID-19 virus. Indori sahib was admitted in Indore’s
Sri Aurbindo Hospital on Sunday, after testing positive for the Coronavirus.
Medical authorities at the Indore hospital said that Rahat Indori Ji succumbed
to cardiorespiratory arrest at 4:40 pm on August 11, Tuesday.
Rahat Indori
succumbs to two heart attacks:
News portal ANI in a tweet wrote that the legendary lyricist had suffered from two heart attacks on Tuesday and had 60% pneumonia. Dr. Vinod Bhandari, who was treating the late poet, said he could not be saved as the heart attacks and Coronavirus had weakened his body. On Tuesday morning, Rahat Indori Ji had tweeted the news of him testing positive of the novel COVID-19 virus and added that he was admitted to the Indore hospital. He requested everyone to not speculate or call him and his family members and stated that everyone will be updated about his health condition.
Rahat Indori’s
words made a brilliant impact on the anti-CAA protests:
Rahat Indori created a
massive impact in the field of poetry and his words made a rallying cry for the
anti-CAA protests, which erupted earlier this year. A line from his
ghazal “Agar Khilaaf hai hone do” called “Kisi ke baap ka Hindustan thodi hai”
became the voice of the voiceless and gave purpose to the dissent. The ghazal
was written 30-35 years ago and Dr. Rahat Indori called it – A ghazal for all,
and not just for any particular religion.
