Days after responding to the media as a “two paisa” body, on Tuesday evening, Trinamool Congress (TMC) Lok Sabha member Mahua Moitra has been boycotted as well as strongly criticized by journalists across the state by two popular Bengali news networks.

Moitra lost her cool: 

Moitra lost her temper on seeing some local reporters on Sunday during attending a party meeting in Gayeshpur in the Nadia district from where she was appointed. Someone who posted it on social media reported what she said afterwards.

A video went viral:

Who has the two-paisa press invited here? A conference is on, and everyone is excited to see their faces in newspapers as well as television….’ In the short video clip that went viral, Moitra can be heard saying.

Apology demanded by Kolkata Press Club:

Her remark was denounced by the Kolkata Press Club, the first institution of its kind founded in the country in 1945, and asked for an apology. 

The picture of an old two paisa coin was used by journalists throughout Bengal as their avatars on social media sites. Many of them wrote against the TMC in sharp papers.

 

Moitra in her tweet:

Moitra, who decided not to take calls from journalists, tweeted a meme on Monday showcasing the image of a two paisa coin as well as a message saying “I apologize for the mean, hurtful precise stuff I said.”

Panchayat minister Subrata Mukherjee stated:

Although this attracted more flak, Tuesday’s TMC leadership disassociated itself from young MP.

“What she has said is her statement, not the position of the party. Mamata Banerjee believes in the media as well as shares the press with information.

 Even if you write against us, we preserve a cordial relationship with the media,” panchayat minister Subrata Mukherjee stated that at a press conference at TMC offices on Tuesday noon.”

Parth Chatterjee about the incident: 

Partha Chatterjee, the Minister of Education as well as TMC Secretary-General, also described the incident as an unfortunate one also said his party respects the media.

On Monday, an online magazine also announced that Moitra told him that Kolkata Press Club members’ standards had fallen abysmally. This article was also posted by Moitra on Twitter.

Snehasis Sur president of the Kolkata Press Club stated:

“In response, Snehasis Sur, a senior journalist as well as president of the Kolkata Press Club, stated, “We don’t really need to hear from Moitra how during Independence, the Bangladesh War or the Emergency, this institution contributed to journalism.
