On Friday, Maruti Suzuki revealed that it had sold three Lakh WagonR units with company-fitted CNG kits.
This makes it the country’s best-selling CNG vehicle in all passenger vehicle segments.
Over the past 20 years, WagonR has been a hot-selling model for Maruti Suzuki. And although numerous upgrades both mechanical and cosmetic-have made by the country’s largest car manufacturer, the addition of factory-fitted CNG kits in 2010 has also found a mark among customers who see it as an economical choice for regular commutes.
Though more than 24 lakh vehicle units have been sold in the country so far, the figure of three lakh WagonR with CNG kits also shows a preference for alternative fuels that are cheaper and have substantially lower levels of emissions.
Therefore, Maruti remains convinced of the prospects of its S-CNG range. “The milestone of WagonR S-CNG ‘s 3 Lakh sales is yet another testament to the tremendous trust bestowed on us by our regular customers,” said Shashank Srivastava, Maruti Suzuki India, Executive Director of Marketing and Sales.
“We are taking this opportunity to thank our loyal customers for their relentless help in making WagonR S-CNG India’s largest selling CNG-powered vehicle.”
Maruti’s S-CNG enables an electronically controlled injection system that, according to the company, takes good care of the engine in a way that does not compromise output but ensures low levels of emissions.
With a mileage of 33.54 kilometres for every kilo of gasoline, the WagonR helps.
For years, WagonR has been a regular in India’s top five-passenger vehicles that sell together. It is a common sight on Indian highways, available in both 1.0 litre and 1.2-litre petrol engines with manual and Auto Gear Shift (AGS) transmission.
Designed on the HEARTECT platform of the company’s 5th generation, WagonR also claims to be safer than before, while the cabin receives an improved infotainment screen while still offering functional space.
