Match: India is still in the Asia Cup 2022
With Sri Lanka already having two Super Four victories, an Asia Cup 2022 title clash between Pakistan and Sri Lanka is a foregone conclusion.
Asia Cup 2022: India’s 2nd defeat in three days in the Super 4 stage has not eliminated them from the Asia Cup. But it has left them precariously dependent on the outcomes of other matches.
They must defeat Afghanistan on Thursday by as large a margin as possible. However, the outcome of that match may be of only academic interest in terms of qualification for Sunday’s final. As India may already be out of contention before taking the field.
This is because Pakistan plays Afghanistan in Sharjah on Wednesday. And a win for Babar Azam’s team will arrange them out of reach of India. As a result, Rohit Sharma and the company will be rooting for the underdogs in that contest.
With Sri Lanka already having two Super Four victories, a title clash between Pakistan and Sri Lanka will be confirmed.
Even if Afghanistan defeats Pakistan before losing to India, India will still rely on Sri Lanka defeating Pakistan on Friday.
When asked about the possibility of an India-Pakistan final, India captain Rohit Sharma replied, “hoga hoga kyun tension le rahe ho Will ensue, why are you taking tension?” One thing that could work in India’s favour is that their two defeats have come on the final ball of the matches. And a big win over Afghanistan could still put them back in the picture if other results go their way.
