Michael Slater, Australian cricketer, police assault incident

Ex-Australian cricket icon Michael Slater has been charged with assaulting a cop during a confrontation in a well-known Queensland vacation town.

The alleged happening on Friday left one official with a scratch on their hand, a police representative said. They further said that officers were replying to alleged household violence and the medical incident at the Noosa property.

53-year-old Michael Slater is also accused of two counts of blocking police and will face court on 2 May. The retired batsman was part of the Australian cricket squad from 1993 to 2001, playing 74 Tests matches.

He then made a career as a high-profile cricket commentator, though he was let go by Australia’s Channel Seven in 2021.

Slater even dismissed domestic violence charges on mental health bases in a Sydney regional court last year.

Slater, who was a television commentator after quitting international cricket, was arrested by New South Wales state police last October for stalking and forcing his ex-partner.

He later violated a restraining order by using a cell phone to call and send many texts to his ex-wife. In December, he was instructed to check into a mental health facility as a state of bail.
