Cyclone Nisarga is headed towards Konkan-Goa, north
Maharashtra and south Gujarat coast, to hit by June 3.
In its morning briefing, on
Monday, the Indian Meteorological Department said that Mumbai,
Konkan-Goa andcertain parts of even South
Gujarat would
experience heavy to very rainfall over the next three days. This would be
caused due to a depression caused in the Arabian
Sea. At present, the
depression lies 370 kilometers south of Panjim, 690 kilometers south of Mumbai
and 920 kms south of Gujarat coast.
The IMD in the bulletin issued
this morning said, “The well marked low pressure system intensified into a depression and will further intensify into a cyclonic
storm during the next 24 hours.”
Palghar district put on “Red
Alert”:
Cyclone Nisarga which is headed towards northern Maharashtra and southern Gujarat will hit land by 3rd June. The IMD has issued a district wide forecast, putting Palghar district, in north Maharashtra, on “Red Alert” for 3rd and 4th June, with the possibility of extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places. Sighting a possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall at few places, Mumbai and Thane have been put on “Orange Alert”. As per IMD’s forecast, Mumbai, Goa and Gujarat are likely to receive thunderstorms and rains on 1st and 2nd June.
The whole of Konkan coast is
said to experience light, moderate and heavy rains, whereby isolated places are
forecasted to receive extremely heavy rainfall. An IMD bulletin stated
Lakshadweep area, Kerala and coastal Karnataka are likely to experience rains
on May 31 and June 1. The bulletin adds- heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is
likely over south Gujarat, North Maharashtra, North Konkan, Daman, Diu,
Silvassa and Dadra & Nagar Haveli on June 3 and 4.
