News announced Munawar Faruqui as the second Lock Upp contestant on Tuesday.
The stand-up comedian will be one of 16 contestants jailed for 72 days in Kangana Ranaut’s show.
Munawar Faruqui, Lock Upp’s second confirmed contestant, was revealed on Tuesday. The comedian, who has newly been in the news for all the wrong reasons, will spend 72 days in Kangana Ranaut’s jail, along with 15 other contestants. According to previous reports, Nisha Rawal will be one of the show’s contestants.
The stand-up comedian is seen setting up his mike to perform in the teaser announcing Munawar’s participation when he is picked up by people and taken inside a jail. According to the voice-over, Munawar is now in prison and will have to play the ‘atyachari khel’ to survive. He is then seen dressed in an orange jumpsuit, which prisoners in the United States commonly wear. “Shows huye hain inke cancel, kya Lock Upp mein inke plans?” “#LockUpp streaming from February 27th, LIVE free,” the video’s caption read.
Due to threats from right-wing groups, over a dozen Munawar shows were cancelled in 2021.
His colleagues had backed him up when he said the treatment meted out to him was unfair. He claimed that he was imprisoned for a joke he never told.
Munawar says of his involvement with ‘Lock Upp,’ “Lock Upp will be a one-of-a-kind show. As I believe it has the probable to change the dynamics of the content-viewing experience in the Indian OTT industry. Though it will be a complex and challenging journey, I am grateful that this show will allow me to be myself in a realistic setting.
Nisha Rawal’s name was announced on Monday. And she spoke exclusively to news about how she wants the world to meet the honest Nisha through the show. “I know it’s a bold show and people want controversy. But I am much more than that,” she said of the ‘one episode’ in her life with her ex-husband. During my first conversation with the creators, I was astounded by what they had planned for the show and what they expected from me. I’ve always been sceptical of reality shows, but I knew this was the opportunity for them to get to know me better. As they’d be following me around 24 hours a day, seven days a week.”
