The first thing apart from the diverse cultures that this country is famous for is its rich heritage and traditions and the world of Indian music. One such powerful and passionate singer who is promoting Indian music with her talents and graceful voice, giving a new face to Indian music and songs is Nidhi Dholakia Pota.

Since her childhood, music was something she felt an unusual connection with. Seeing great artists of the music industry, learning from their songs and taking inspiration from them led Nidhi to discover the world of music from the music classes that were held at Shri Bhuvaneshwari Pith, Gondal, Gujarat, where her journey in devotional songs and bhajans began. Over the years, this powerful singer honed her skills in music, learning the small nuances of songs, understanding rhythm, tunes and the lyrics and emerged as one of the most sought-after female devotional singers in the industry.

Nidhi confesses that her successful journey so far wouldn’t have been possible without the unending support of her parents Shri Rajendrabhai and Smt Bhavnaben Dholakia and her husband, Shri Keyur Pota. However, she also says that while in school, she loved playing sports and saw herself as an athlete. Her love for sports had made her the American game Baseball champion and was a participant in state-level athletics competitions. She loved all kinds of arts and extracurricular activities at school and remained an active student throughout her academic career.

Her gradual and growing interest in music made her realize her true calling and this made Nidhi learn music professionally. Her confidence grew with age and she participated in Zee TV’s famous singing reality show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa, 15 years ago. She even became a winner in Star Plus’ singing show ‘Meri Awaaz Suno’ and participated in Zee TV’s Close Up Antakshari in 2004-2005. Currently, she is expanding her knowledge in music and learning from Piyuben Sarkhel.

Nidhi says that her early inspiration and inclination towards learning Sugam Sangeet came from listening to great legends of the industry like Purushotram Upadhyay, Ashit Desai and Bhadrayu Dholakia. She learnt every shade and gradations in music through Sugam Sangeet, but her real fame came with her album “Shreenathji ni Zakhi“, for which she went on to garner the highest recognition and appreciation.

So far, Nidhi has also bowled over all her fans and listeners by giving her voice to around 8 to 10 Gujarati films and serials as a playback singer. Nidhi, today is more known for the magic she creates with her devotional songs and bhajans, especially her Shreenathji album. ‘Vaanke Ambode Shrinathji‘, remains her listeners and her favourite bhajan. Nidhi has achieved so much respect across the music industry and otherwise that the Ambani family as well have appreciated her talent, where she is regularly seen performing at their place for various events. Mr Mukesh Ambani too has praised her singing. Nidhi also tops Smt Kokilaben Ambani’s list of favourite singers.

In fact, Nidhi claims that Smt Kokilaben Ambani’s day starts with listening to her soulful voice and bhajans. Talking about the significance of singing in our mother tongue and promoting the art form through the same, Nidhi says, “People must stay true to their mother tongue and must know the language well. When people start loving their mother tongue, they automatically develop the taste to love regional songs as well.” 

On a parting shot, Nidhi says that kids today are living in a very competitive world; hence, they must focus on learning music professionally first and then prepare themselves thoroughly to step on stage for making a brighter career in the same.
