PI Sandip Khambhala, along with other airport police officials, thwarted a suicide attempt.

The airport police officers rescued the young man in distress and saved his life, taking swift action and tracking him down at his location in Ahmedabad.

On May 15th, 2024, a report suggested how the heroic and intelligent actions taken by the airport police in Ahmedabad saved the life of a young man.

At approximately 3.30 pm on the said day, Police Inspector (PI) Sandip Khambhla of the airport police station received a distressed call. The caller identified himself as Rahul and declared his intention of committing suicide.

However, displaying a commendable presence of mind, PI Khambhla engaged Rahul in a telephone conversation and advised him against taking such drastic steps, emphasizing how suicide is a grievous sin.

Simultaneously, he sought assistance from the Ahmedabad Crime Branch to trace Rahul’s mobile phone location. The crime branch helped track his location near Narmada Canal in the Adalaj police jurisdiction.

PI Khambhla coordinated with the Adalaj police inspector and mobilized his team. This team included officers Kalpeshkumar Pathubhai, Pravinbhai Dadabhai, Poonambhai Chhapanbhai, and Hareshbhai Danabhai.

Upon arrival of all these officers, the rescue operation began, where the police found the young man, identified as Rahul, holding a small plastic bottle containing a white liquid. The police apprehended Rahul swiftly and confiscated the bottle.

During initial questioning, the young man confirmed he was the same guy who called the control room about committing suicide. The team then took Rahul to the police station for further counseling and support.

Rahul, a 29-year-old resident of Akshardham Society, Kotarpur, Sardar Nagar, Ahmedabad, revealed his reasons for taking such steps. He confirmed the severe financial distress that pushed him to contemplate something as heinous as committing suicide. Hence, he found the control room’s number on Google and reached out for help.

The police provided the young man with immediate counseling and notified his family; his father was called to the police station, and further discussions took place.

On the other hand, Rahul understood the gravity of what he was trying to do and promised never to take such steps again. PI Khambhla, along with his team, after ensuring Rahul’s safety and mental well-being, handed him over to his father.

This incident highlights the commendable efforts and swift actions of PI Sandip Khambhla and the airport police team. Their efforts together saved Rahul’s life and also emphasized the importance of mental health awareness and support.
