With the Modi government’s sound policies playing the role of an enabler for entrepreneurs and innovators to take advantage of the new digital wave, India will be at the forefront of the AI age, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said.

At the Mumbai Tech Week 2025, the Minister expressed his confidence that Mumbai has the potential to become India’s leading tech hub, thanks to the significant investments being made in infrastructure, capital, and skill development. He highlighted that Mumbai already possesses all the essential elements to become a major player in the global tech scene.

The Minister also shared his thoughts on India’s growing dominance in artificial intelligence (AI), emphasizing the country’s advantage in adopting and ethically utilizing AI. On social media, he posted about his experience at the event, where he discussed India’s potential in the AI landscape and the importance of responsible AI usage.

India has emerged as a leader in AI adoption, with a record three billion AI-related app downloads in 2024, surpassing both the United States (1.5 billion) and China (1.3 billion). Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella described India as the “use case capital of AI,” highlighting the country’s shift from AI research to practical implementation at a massive scale.

At the AI Action Summit in Paris, co-chaired by India and France, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the global responsibility of AI. He stressed that AI should be ethical, inclusive, and trustworthy, noting that the world is on the brink of the AI age. PM Modi called for international cooperation to set governance standards for AI that address risks and foster innovation. He also advocated for making AI accessible to all, particularly in the Global South, to help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

PM Modi outlined India’s progress in building Digital Public Infrastructure for its 1.4 billion citizens and highlighted the country’s AI mission, including the development of a Large Language Model for AI. He affirmed India’s readiness to share its expertise, ensuring the benefits of AI are distributed globally, and announced that India will host the next AI Summit.
