PM Modi unveils development projects worth ₹34,200cr in Gujarat’s Bhavnagar

PM Modi even laid the foundation stone for LNG infrastructure, other renewable energy projects, coastal protection works, highways, and healthcare and metropolitan transport projects.

Focus on Maritime Sector Growth

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday (September 20, 2025) inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for a series of development projects worth over ₹34,200 crore in Bhavnagar, Gujarat, with a strong emphasis on boosting India’s maritime infrastructure.

Projects worth ₹7,870 crore were dedicated to the maritime sector. These included the virtual inauguration of the Mumbai International Cruise Terminal at Indira Dock, foundation stones for a new container terminal at Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata, and new cargo-handling facilities at Paradip Port. Other projects included the Tuna Tekra Multi-Cargo Terminal, firefighting and connectivity upgrades at Kamarajar Port, Ennore, coastal protection works at Chennai Port and Car Nicobar Island, as well as a Green Bio-Methanol Plant and multi-purpose cargo berth at Deendayal Port, Kandla.

Major Investments in Gujarat

Alongside the maritime push, Modi launched and laid the foundation stone for multiple Central and State government projects worth ₹26,354 crore across Gujarat. These included the HPLNG Re-gasification Terminal at Chhara Port, the Acrylics & Oxo Alcohol Project at Gujarat IOCL Refinery, and several renewable energy initiatives such as the 600 MW Green Shoe Initiative, PM-KUSUM 475 MW Component C solar feeder, and the 45 MW Badeli Solar PV Project.

In a significant step towards sustainability, Modi also inaugurated the complete solarisation of Dhordo village in Kutch, known for hosting the annual Rann Utsav.

Infrastructure, Healthcare, and Connectivity

Beyond ports and energy, the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for LNG infrastructure, highways, healthcare, and urban transport projects. Notable initiatives included the expansion of Sir T. General Hospital in Bhavnagar, Guru Govind Singh Government Hospital in Jamnagar, and the four-laning of 70 km of national highways to improve regional connectivity.

Aerial Survey and Maritime Heritage Visit

Later in the day, Modi conducted an aerial survey of Dholera, chaired a review meeting on development works, and visited the National Maritime Heritage Complex at Lothal, highlighting the government’s commitment to both modern infrastructure and cultural preservation.
