PM Modi will visit Odisha Train crash site today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the Odisha Train crash site today; the shocking train disaster took place yesterday, which killed 238 people and hospitalised hundreds more.

According to PMO insiders, PM Modi would first go to the accident scene before going to the hospital where the casualties are being treated. PM Modi was supposed to officially launch Goa’s first Vande Bharat Express train today.

The Vande Bharat event was cancelled following the tragedy in Odisha. Prime Minister Modi convened a high-level meeting of senior railway authorities to assess the situation in Odisha.

The meeting and PM Modi’s in-person appraisal of the situation on the ground will take place on Saturday.

Odisha Train crash rescue operation:

On Saturday, almost 16 hours after the disaster, which involved two Express trains and a goods train, the rescue mission was declared complete.

The official toll was set at 280 dollars. Approximately 900 passengers were transported to hospitals with minor to severe injuries.

During the overnight labour, the rescuers had a difficult time because three trains were piled on top of each other, with a strong possibility that passengers were trapped deep beneath.

To ensure that no one was trapped alive, rescuers had to cut through the rail carriages. By 10 p.m., all survivors had been rescued, and it was simply a matter of gathering up bodies and limbs.

The accident occurred approximately 222 miles southwest of Kolkata.

On Saturday morning, the crumpled remains of the trains that were entirely destroyed in the massive impact of the consecutive crashes remained on the track. The tracks have also been damaged.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered an additional ex gratia of 2 lahks for the deceased’s next of kin and 50,000 for the injured from the PM’s National Relief Fund on Friday.

Yesterday just after the incident, PM Narendra Modi tweeted, Distressed by the train accident in Odisha. In this hour of grief, my thoughts are with the bereaved families. May the injured recover soon. Spoke to Railway Minister @AshwiniVaishnaw and took stock of the situation. Rescue ops are underway at the site of the mishap, and all possible assistance is being given to those affected.
