Prime Minister Narendra Modi embarked on a significant two-day visit to his home state, Gujarat, from May 26 to 27, marking his first visit after Operation Sindoor. During his stay, he launched a series of major development projects worth Rs 82,000 crore, aimed at boosting infrastructure and public welfare across the state.
The visit began with a grand roadshow in Vadodara, where Modi was warmly welcomed by crowds showering flower petals. This vibrant reception highlighted the enthusiasm of local supporters, reflecting the political and social significance of his visit.
Modi’s first stop was Dahod, where he inaugurated the Loco Manufacturing Shop-Rolling Stock Workshop, a key facility that bolsters the ‘Make in India’ initiative. Following this, he addressed the public in Kharod, Dahod, and laid the foundation stones for multiple railway and government projects totaling Rs 24,000 crore. The PM also flagged off the Somnath–Ahmedabad Vande Bharat train and inaugurated a major railway production unit in Dahod, a Rs 21,000 crore investment reinforcing India’s manufacturing capabilities.
Addressing critical public utilities, Modi inaugurated four drinking water improvement schemes worth Rs 181 crore. These schemes will provide clean drinking water to 4.62 lakh people across 193 villages and one town in the Mahisagar and Dahod districts, ensuring access to safe water at 100 litres per capita per day.
Later in the day, Modi visited Bhuj, where he inaugurated and laid foundations for development projects worth over Rs 53,000 crore. These projects include infrastructure upgrades at Kandla Port, solar power plants, power transmission systems, and road construction, benefiting several districts including Kutch, Jamnagar, Amreli, and Ahmedabad.
The day concluded with a 3 km roadshow in Ahmedabad from the airport to Indira Bridge, where over 50,000 BJP workers and citizens gathered to welcome the Prime Minister. Modi stayed overnight at Raj Bhavan in Gandhinagar.
On May 27, Modi continued his momentum with a 2 km roadshow in Gandhinagar attended by more than 30,000 BJP supporters. He then inaugurated and laid foundation stones for projects worth Rs 5,536 crore at the Mahatma Mandir convention center.
The Prime Minister also inaugurated 22,055 houses built under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana at a cost of Rs 1,006 crore, promoting affordable housing. Additionally, he laid the foundation for Phase-3 of the Sabarmati Riverfront development, a Rs 1,000 crore urban renewal project.
To support urban local bodies, Modi distributed cheques worth Rs 3,300 crore under the Swarnim Jayanti Mukhyamantri Shaheri Vikas Yojana, aiming to further boost urban infrastructure and services across Gujarat.
