PM Rishi Sunak talks about the countries economic crisis in a interview

During an interview, UK PM Rishi Sunak was challenged with a story about a woman who has been forced to stay in the dark because she cannot buy a lightbulb due to the country’s economic difficulties.

In an interview with BBC Breakfast, Rishi Sunak was asked about the UK’s cost of living crisis, using the example of a lady named Nikki from Cornwall.

“She works as a carer, she earns £10.15 an hour, and her kitchen is dark this week,” said BBC presenter Jon Kay. She can’t afford a kitchen light bulb till her daughter gets paid next week. She works in social services.

“It’s difficult to imagine that to the UK in 2023, right?” You’ve been the Chancellor and the Chief Secretary to the Treasury. You are now Prime Minister. “I mean, aren’t your fingerprints all over this economy?” The presenter went on to say.

“I’m proud of the fact that one of the things we did after I became PM made a few difficult decisions elsewhere, such as deciding to tax the profits of the largest companies more given the circumstances we’re in,” PM Rishi Sunak responded, adding, “If you just let me explain what we’re trying to do to help.”

We’re putting additional money into social care because we’re using that money to support people in those situations.”

“I want to ensure that we are assisting Nikki, and Nikki should be aware that we are investing billions of pounds more in social care throughout the country, which will help ensure that she is well compensated.”

“We’re ensuring that the government covers Nikki’s energy bill to around £1500,” the prime minister stated.
