Police investigate the killing of Navi Mumbai builder

The sound of bullets shook the citizens and shopkeepers around the busy street in sector 6, Nerul, Navi Mumbai.

“I was looking into the stands when I heard the three bullet shots fired, and by the time I could think what had happened, I saw two motorists speeding away,” a chemist from Krishna Medical, just opposite the spot, told.

Builder of Nerul, Navi Mumbai shot dead in broad daylight:

Two unknown attackers, suspected of following his car on bikes, shot a builder at Nerul in Navi Mumbai on Wednesday night. The police also doubt that the killing could be a fallout of the land conflicts he was involved in his native, Kutch.

The body of Savji Manjeri Patel, 54, was discovered in his vehicle with his legs outside at about 5 pm, deputy commissioner of police (crime branch) Amit Kale told.

“Either he was getting into the vehicle or was coming out when the incident occurred. We are gathering CCTV footage to check the sequence of events as we have not seen a witness yet,” Kale said.

Three bullet shells were seen on the spot, and the initial investigation found that Patel sustained two bullet wounds on his neck and chest. Four units from the crime branch and a set of Nerul police are probing the case.

Patel, who lived in CBD Belapur, was even the adviser to Emperia Group, which has ongoing works at Panvel, Nerul, Rasayani and Gujarat and has forthcoming projects at Kharghar, Turbhe and Panvel.

A sugarcane juice vendor said he was too scared to even go around the site, but his wife went and saw the builder’s body with an injury on his chest.

“There appears to be no argument or fight before the firing, or else people would have seen it,” a police official said.

Patel’s son Dhiraj, the managing executive and founder of Emperia Group visited the site and identified the body, following which the cops conducted a panchnama.
