Former Cricketer and active
politician Chetan Chauhan has tested positive for novel Coronavirus. The 72-year-old cricketer turned politician was
famous for his opening partnerships with SunilGavaskar. He played 40 tests for India and created a
formidable partnership with Gavaskar in the 1970s.
Chetan Chauhan was known as a
“gritty fighter”:
Chauhan had developed a reputation of being a heavy scorer of runs in India’s domestic cricket while being labelled a “gritty fighter” in the international cricket. Chauhan is also remembered for him becoming the first-ever player to score 200 plus runs in international cricket, without scoring a century. Chauhan also featured in seven One Day Internationals (ODIs), and score 2084 runs in his cricketing career. His formidable partnership with Gavaskar resulted in them knocking 3022 runs in just 59 opening partnerships of which 10 of them lasted for more than 100 runs. Chetan Chauhan shifted gears and went onto become a politician, residing as a Lok Sabha Member of Parliament in the 1990s. Chauhan ji was diagnosed of the fatal virus on Friday and has been admitted to Lucknow’s Sanjay Gandhi PGI hospital.

Chauhan’s speedy recovery:
On late Saturday night, many
former cricketers tweeted their prayers and wishes for Chetan ji’s speedy
recovery from the deadly virus. Firmer pacer Rudra Pratap
Singh tweeted,”
Just heard about Chetan Chauhan ji… Chetan has tested positive for
#coronavirus. Praying for his speedy recovery. #pray.” Several other pundits
and presenters broke the news on their social media and sent their wishes for
the ex-cricketer’s health.
