From childhood, she has grown up with only aim to be a singer and renowned music world personality. She used to write songs and sing herself, which was much acknowledged by the surrounding people. Born and brought in Delhi she started her music career at a tender age. In school, she used to have a subject of music which was her favourite and her teacher always motivated her as she was blessed with a melodious voice. Poonamji used to perform in school functions and annual day events. She almost established herself as a singer before completing schooling.

She learned music in school from Meera Banerjee and Manmohan Sharma.

Her father was an Assistant Commissioner of police in Delhi and her mother was a principal. Having a sound background, she completed her post-education in Hindi literature, after which she got married and took a break from music for a few years. As her husband was a Bank Officer, for which they have to travel a lot across the globe. But music was something that she could not live without it. Poonam Raj always learned music wherever she travelled. She met with an astonishing opportunity with the renowned name Sundrani Video world in Raipur, Chhattisgarh. She sang more than 100 songs in their company. Did massive albums with famous personalities like – Anuradha Padwal, Dilipji and many more. She sang numerous bhajans which were also written by her.

Afterwards, she shifted to Mumbai and now based in Mumbai for 20-22 years. Her pro music sense of beats and rhythm and her mesmerizing voice is much appreciated and loved by millions of her fans and listeners. Her music journey took a stupendous turn when she met the legendary personality of music – Ravindra Jain in Mumbai. She gains immense music knowledge from him. Now there was no looking back for this her. Poonamji’s voice now has become the need of the industry and audiences.
