CSK’s ₹14.20 Crore Star Prashant Veer Injured Before IPL 2026

Chennai Super Kings has suffered a significant setback ahead of the 19th edition of the Indian Premier League. Prashant Veer, the franchise’s most expensive uncapped player acquisition at ₹14.20 crore, sustained a shoulder injury during Uttar Pradesh’s Ranji Trophy match against Jharkhand in Lucknow. The incident occurred just before lunch in the 30th over when Veer dived to his right at mid-off to stop a hard-hit ball by Jharkhard batter Shikhar Mohan.

Incident Details and Hospital Assessment

The left-arm all-rounder landed badly on his right shoulder during the diving attempt and immediately showed signs of distress. The team physio attended to him with pain-relief spray, but Veer was subsequently taken off the field and rushed to the hospital for comprehensive scans. He returned with his arm in a sling, effectively ruling him out for the remainder of the match. Early medical reports suggest a grade-2 tear, which could sideline him for a minimum of three weeks.

CSK’s Strategic Loss

Veer was expected to become Ravindra Jadeja’s successor at CSK following the veteran all-rounder’s transfer to Rajasthan Royals. The timing of the injury is particularly concerning, with IPL 2026 commencing on March 26 and just two months remaining for recovery. This development could significantly impact CSK’s pre-tournament planning and squad combination strategy.

The defending champions RCB will play the tournament opener, while the final is scheduled for May 31, 2026.
