PS5 and PS5 Digital: They are 10-12.5 percent higher than their respective launch prices in India.
In India, the PlayStation 5 is becoming more expensive by at least 10%. On Saturday, Sony India quietly updated the prices on the Sony Center website ShopAtSC for both variants of Sony’s elusive next-gen console, PS5, and PS5 Digital Edition. The 4K Blu-ray-enabled PlayStation 5 now costs Rs. 54,990, a 10% increase over its initial price of Rs. 49,990. Meanwhile, the disc-less PS5 Digital Edition is becoming even more expensive at Rs. 44,990, a 12.5 percent increase over its launch price of Rs. 39,990.
This is most likely due to the soaring US Dollar (USD), which has affected nearly every aspect of a global society. Gadgets 360 reached out to Sony India for comment but had not received a response at the time of publication.
Fortunately, no PS5 accessories have changed in price as of yet. The DualSense PlayStation 5 wireless controller is still available for Rs. 5,990 (in white and black) and Rs. 6,390 (in white and black) (for blue, red, pink, and purple color variants). As always, you can get them for less than the MSRP. The PS5 wireless headset Pulse 3D is still priced at Rs. 8,590, despite being regularly available for Rs. 7,890.
The PS5 HD Camera is still priced at Rs. 5,190, though it is available for Rs. 4,790 in most places.
Regarding a PS5 price increase, India isn’t the only affected market — nor is it the first. Sony India announced in August that the PlayStation 5 and PS5 Digital Edition would be more expensive in the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, Japan, China, Mexico, and select markets in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. While Canada experienced the smallest increase, at 3-4 percent, Sony’s home country of Japan was the most affected, with a 21-24 percent increase. The company cited “high global inflation rates” and “negative currency trends.” The ramifications of this have now reached our shores. This year, the Indian Rupee (INR) has lost about 10% of its value against the US dollar.
