R Ashwin demands justice for Jeyaraj-Fenix in the custodial death case.

Shikhar Dhawan also expressed his shock and people from various fields speak out against the accountability of the Tamil Nadu state police.

On Friday night, a senior member of the Indian Cricket TeamR Ashwin took to his social media to demand justice for the dubious custodial deaths of Tamil Nadu shop-keeper Jeyaraj and his son Fenix (Bennix). Jeyaraj (63) and his son Fenix (31) were allegedly killed in police custody in Thoothukudi district of Tamil Nadu.

R Ashwin says every single life matters:

On Twitter, Ashwin said,” Every single life matters. We should make sure that this act of brutality is meted out with justice, and I am not sure justice will be any solace for the family of #JeyarajandFenix and my thoughts are with them.” The former Chennai Super Kings spinner also stated,” Hopefully we will value lives more than just Hashtags, and sincerely hope this last one of those hashtags we may ever have to use. #JusticeForJeyarajAndFenix.”

The family of the deceased and the traders suspect the reason for the duo’s death to be police torture in the custody. Earlier on Tuesday, more than 1000 people of Sathankulam town in Thoothukudi district staged a dharna seeking justice for the duo’s dubious death.

People from across many fields joined in the online protests for accountability from the Tamil Nadu State Police. Besides Ashwin, India’s ace badminton player, Jwala Gutta also took to Twitter to join the protests and demanded justice for the father-son duo’s alleged killing.

Senior Cricketer Shikhar Dhawan also expressed his shock on the grim news and tweeted,” Horrified to hear about the brutality inflicted upon Jeyaraj and Fenix in Tamil Nadu. We must raise our voice and make sure justice is given to the family.” #JusticeForJeyarajAndFenix trended on social media as the state police failed to take any substantive action.
