Congress leader and MP, Rahul Gandhi on Thursday tweeted the media report and asked “Is this the India of our dreams?” The media report has revealed the gruesome sexual exploitation of minor girls, in the mines of UP’s Chitrakoot, Bundelkhand. Rahul Gandhi expressed his grief over the devastating news and wrote,” A family starving due to an unplanned lockdown…. To live, these girls have had to pay this terrible price…. Daughters of the poor are forced for working in mines:

But a lot worse has happened in Bundelkhand, where daughters of the poor are forced to work in mines, but do not get the daily wage. Instead, the middlemen and contractors ask the minor girls to sleep with them to give them the daily wages said sources. Many instances of girls being abused severely in the mines have come out, but no official reporting or investigation has been done. A girl who lives in nearby village Karvi said, ”If we go and find work, then they say that you will have to give us your body, only then you will get work, so we do it under compulsion. The ones who deny it are told that they will not be given any work.”

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also talked about the media report on Wednesday and urged the government and concerned authorities to take strict and immediate action.
