Rahul Gandhi vows party revamp in Gujarat, says Congress can defeat BJP-RSS

Rahul Gandhi is on a two-day trip to Gujarat, which started on 15 April, to start a pilot initiative to bolster the party’s grassroots network.

On Gujarat Visit, Gandhi Promises Internal Reform and Stronger Leadership

Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Wednesday emphasized that Congress is the only party capable of defeating the BJP and RSS, as he outlined a renewed push to revitalize the party in Gujarat.

Speaking at a Congress district workers’ convention in Modasa, Aravalli district, Gandhi said, “We seem demoralised in Gujarat, but we will defeat them (BJP) in the state.” He noted that the transformation would begin in Gujarat, with a focus on introducing new leadership and tackling internal challenges.

Party Overhaul in Progress

Gandhi, who is on a two-day visit to Gujarat starting April 15, said the revamp has been in discussion for several months with senior Congress leaders, including party president Mallikarjun Kharge.

“This fight is not just political, it is ideological,” Gandhi asserted, “and people know that only the Congress party can defeat the RSS and the BJP.”

In his meeting with district leaders, Gandhi acknowledged internal conflicts, including:

  • Destructive rivalries among leaders
  • Exclusion of local leaders from the ticket distribution process

“We have decided that some changes need to be brought into the Congress party,” he said. “Leaders told me that the internal competition is damaging rather than productive, and that local voices are often ignored in key decisions.”

Gandhi’s visit and strong messaging signal a fresh attempt to rebuild the Congress in Gujarat, a state where the BJP has long held political dominance.
