Ramayan again tops the charts in TRP and also creates a world record.

We are living in 2020 but guess what with no surprise 80’s Ramayan breaks all the records in TRPs after 33 years it was re-telecasted on DD National.

After public demand, Ramanand Sagar’s magnum opus Ramayan breaks all the records. Lockdown and people demanded some of the 80’s famous shows like Ramayan and others.

The decision of the re-telecast of the show was taken in March by Doordarshan National soon after PM Narendra Modi announced a nationwide lockdown across the country to prevent further spread of COVID-19.

Recent reports from the channel suggest that the show on April 16 was watched by 7.7 crore people globally.

Exclaiming the news on their official Twitter handle, DD National posted, “Rebroadcast of Ramayana on Doordarshan smashes viewership records worldwide, the show becomes most watched entertainment show in the world with 7.7 crore viewers on 16th of April.”

In another tweet, the channel thanked all the viewers for making this happen & posted, “Thanks to all our viewers! #RAMAYAN – WORLD RECORD! Highest Viewed Entertainment Program Globally.”

The re-telecasted show winded up its last episode on April 18, followed by the re-telecast of “Uttar Ramayan” which will be airing its final episode on Saturday. Reports also say the audiences have loved Uttar Ramayan as much as they loved the re-run of Ramayan.

The serial would get replaced by Ramanand Sagar’s 1993 magnum opus “Shri Krishna” which starred Sarvadaman D. Banerjee as Krishna. It will start its re-run from Sunday.

Ramayan also became a cult show in the late 80s because of the stellar performances of the actors. Arun Govil as Ram, Dipika Chikhlia as Sita, Sunil Lahri as Lakshman & Dara Singh as Hanuman stole the show with their believable performances so much so that many fans then even touched their feet to offer prayers to them at various events thinking they were real Ram, Sita, Lakshman & Hanuman.
