Ranbir Kapoor Plays Double Role as Rama and Parashuram in Ramayana

Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor has confirmed that he will be portraying a double role in the highly anticipated epic film Ramayana, directed by Nitesh Tiwari. Speaking to Collider during a private event in Los Angeles, where the teaser was first unveiled, Kapoor revealed that he will play both Lord Rama and Lord Parashuram — two distinct avatars of Lord Vishnu.

“Lord Vishnu has different avatars. Lord Rama is one avatar, and Lord Parashuram was an avatar before Lord Rama, and just to get the opportunity to play them both was fantastic,” the actor shared.

Spiritual Depth Behind the Characters

Kapoor explained that understanding the spiritual and emotional core of each character was key to differentiating between the two roles. Beyond physical body language, he immersed himself in understanding who these figures are, what they stand for, and what drives them — allowing the distinction between the two avatars to emerge naturally on screen.

A Grand Cinematic Spectacle

The teaser presents Ranbir as Maryada Purushottam Rama — the embodiment of righteousness, dharma, and moral excellence. The film boasts a star-studded cast featuring Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Ravi Dubey as Lakshmana, and Bobby Deol as Hanuman. Mounted as one of India’s most ambitious cinematic projects, Ramayana promises cutting-edge visual effects and large-scale storytelling aimed at bringing the timeless epic to global audiences.

The first part is scheduled to release on Diwali 2026, with the second part following on Diwali 2027.
