Event Overview

The Ministry of Mines is organizing the Rashtriya Khanij Chintan Shivir–2026 from 8–10 January 2026 at Gandhinagar, Gujarat. The three‑day event aims to hold structured deliberations on key regulatory and developmental issues in the mining sector while strengthening Centre–State coordination.

Inauguration

The formal inauguration will take place on 9 January at the Mahatma Mandir Convention and Exhibition Centre, led by Shri G. Kishan Reddy, Union Minister for Coal and Mines. Distinguished leaders and dignitaries attending include:

  • Shri C. R. Patil, Union Minister for Jal Shakti
  • Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Minister of Labour & Employment
  • Shri Bhupendra Patel, Chief Minister of Gujarat
  • Shri Satish Chandra Dubey, Minister of State for Coal and Mines
  • Alongside them, ministers in charge of mining from various states, senior government officers, experts, and industry stakeholders will participate.

Focus Areas

A dedicated emphasis will be placed on the Critical Minerals Mission, which seeks to:

  • Strengthen domestic availability of critical and strategic minerals vital for clean energy transition, advanced manufacturing, and emerging technologies.
  • Enhance exploration efforts and secure supply chains.
  • Encourage domestic processing and value addition.
  • Improve Centre–State coordination for long‑term mineral security.

Other key themes include:

  • Exploration and auction of mineral blocks
  • Sustainable and responsible mining practices
  • Adoption of advanced technologies
  • Mine safety and ease of doing business
  • Promotion of value addition in the mineral sector
  • Reducing import dependence and promoting self‑reliance

Expected Outcomes

The Shivir is designed to provide a common platform for the Centre and States to:

  • Exchange best practices
  • Address key challenges
  • Chart a coordinated roadmap for growth and sustainable development of India’s mining sector in line with national priorities.
