Every year February 14th is marked as Valentine’s Day; here’s the reason why we celebrate this Day.

The origins of this Day are somewhat unknown, with various theories about when the holiday first became popular.

On the other hand, Valentine’s Day is widely believed to have its origins in ancient Roman traditions.

A theory behind Valentine’s day celebration:

According to one theory, the day is derived from the ancient Roman festival of Lupercalia, which took place in mid-February.

During Lupercalia, young men drew names of young women from a box and then were paired with them for the festival period.

The exchange of love letters and gifts eventually took the place of this matchmaking ritual.

Another theory of big Day:

Another theory connects Valentine’s Day to the story of Saint Valentine, a Christian martyr who was performed on February 14th in the third century.

According to legend, Saint Valentine was a Roman priest who secretly performed weddings for couples in love during a period when the emperor prohibited marriage.

According to another legend, Saint Valentine was imprisoned and wrote a letter to a young girl he had fallen in love with, signing it “from your Valentine,” a term still used today.

The 1st recorded Valentine’s Day message was sent during the 15th century, and by the 18th century, it was common to exchange Valentine’s Day cards and gifts.

Valentine’s Day is now marked in many countries worldwide and is a popular time for people to express their love and affection.
