Relief from Heatwave, Dust Storms Expected in Gujarat

After weeks of enduring a heatwave, Gujarat is experiencing a welcome temperature drop. However, residents should prepare for another weather event: dust storms.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), light dust storms with maximum surface wind speeds of up to 40 mph in gusts will likely affect certain districts over the next few days.

Affected Areas Due to Dust Storms in Gujarat:

The IMD forecasts that the districts of North Gujarat, Saurashtra, and Kutch, specifically Banaskantha, Patan, Surendranagar, and Kutch, will experience these dust storms until 8:30 am on June 2.

Residents in the affected districts are advised to take precautions against dust storms, which can reduce visibility and cause respiratory issues, especially those with pre-existing conditions.

The IMD recommends staying indoors during peak dust storm periods and using protective gear if outside activity is necessary.

As of May 30, 2024, the southwest Monsoon has set in over Kerala and advanced into most parts of Northeast India. This marks the beginning of the monsoon season, which is crucial for the agricultural sector and water resources across India.
