Review of the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro, the new ‘premium’ WearOS watch

The Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Proo is designed for those who want a more rugged Samsung smartwatch with better battery life and durability. Here’s our verdict:

What’s new in the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro?

The Titanium body of the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro is complemented by a Sapphire Crystal display (the watch is only available in 45 mm size). The Watch 5 Pro also has a larger 590 mAh battery, unlike the Watch 5’s 410 mAh (44 mm size). The Watch 5 Pro will also support ‘route-based’ workouts, in which users can import GPX format files from their phone and receive turn-by-turn directions while hiking.

The Galaxy Watch 5 Pro also has a temperature sensor, which appears to be inoperable at the moment. There is no set purpose for this, though Samsung may activate the sensor later. It also includes Samsung’s more advanced BioActive Sensor, which can measure heart rate, among other things. However, the ECG feature is still unavailable in India, which is disappointing. It is still unknown why Samsung has not yet made this available in India.

What’s great about the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro?

The Galaxy Watch 5 Pro will undoubtedly appeal to those looking for a high-end smartwatch. It also includes a unique ‘D-Buckle Sport Band’ with a magnetic clasp system for a better fit.

The Galaxy Watch 5 Pro has a bright AMOLED touchscreen display. When using this indoors, I kept the brightness to a bare minimum, visible outside as well. Remember that leaving the Always-On display on all the time will use more battery.

The Galaxy Watch 5 Pro has two dedicated buttons, the top of which has a red accent. The lower button is for going back, while the top is for the Home Key and the power button. A long press activates Samsung’s Bixby voice assistant as well.
