Robin Baker says Alia should be nominated for BAFTA and Oscar

Key Takeaways:

  • According to Robin Baker, Alia Bhatt’s performance in Gangubai Kathiawadi merits nomination for both the British Academy Film Awards and the Academy Awards.
  • The big, brash, sentimental, and incredibly entertaining film is fantastic, but Bhatt is outstanding, continued the chief curator of the BFI.
  • The 76th BAFTA Awards will be presented on February 9 in London, and the nominations will be made public on January 19.

After British Film Institute’s Robin Baker stated that Alia Bhatt should be nominated for both the British Academy Film Awards and the Oscars for her performance in Gangubai Kathiawadi, Alia Bhatt sent him a message of gratitude and love.

On February 25, 2022, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s historical drama had its Indian premiere. Sanjay has been promoting the Hindi movie in London, England, and Los Angeles, California, during this awards season.

Robin shared on Instagram, “If I were a BAFTA or Academy member this year (which I am not), I would vote for Alia Bhatt for Best Actress for her work in GANGUBAI KATHIAWADI (Sanjay Leela Bhansali, India, 2022).

She portrays a prostitute who later advocates for sex workers’ rights. The best part of her performance is watching how she changes as her character does.” Robin urged voters to consider Alia and nominate her even though he is not a film academy member.

The BFI’s chief curator added, “The big, brash, sentimental, and incredibly entertaining movie is fantastic, but Bhatt is outstanding.

Additional enjoyment comes from the film’s nods to classic Hindi cinema, including Gangubai’s devotion to Dev Anand, movie-going scenes from the 1950s and 1960s, and the numerous movie posters lining the streets in and around Bombay’s red light district.

If you haven’t seen it, please do so immediately (especially if you have friends who vote for the BAFTA and Academy Awards).” Robin’s post was reposted by Alia, along with a string of white heart emojis.

Alia Shared Robin Baker’s post in her Instagram story

As they added a red heart and a fire emoji to Robin’s declaration, the public supported him. Even one admirer wrote, “Among all the Nepo babies in Bollywood, she is the best.

She embodies perfection in every way. She is the best result of nepotism, and others should take note. She is everyone’s favourite because of her acting and grace.”

The 76th BAFTA Awards nominations will be revealed on January 19, and the awards ceremony will take place on February 9 in London. The 95th Academy Awards ceremony might occur on March 12, and the nominations will be announced on January 24.

A week before it was released in India, Gangubai Kathiawadi had its world premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival.

It also features Ajay Devgn in a cameo. Raha Kapoor, Alia’s first child, was born on November 6. Ranbir Kapoor, an actor, is her husband.

The couple last appeared together in Ayan Mukerji’s fantasy adventure film Brahmstra: Part One – Shiva.
