Rohit Sharma Scripts History With 1500 ODI Runs In England

Rohit Sharma created a piece of cricketing history on Sunday, July 19, becoming the first overseas player to complete 1500 ODI runs on English soil. The Indian opener reached the milestone during the third ODI against England at Lord’s, a match being widely speculated as his last assignment in international cricket.

A Slow Start Turns Vintage

Needing just 35 runs to reach the landmark, Rohit got there in only 32 balls, batting on a tricky surface at the historic venue. After a subdued outing in the first two games of the series, the veteran opener looked back to his best, calmly absorbing pressure from a testing new-ball spell by Jofra Archer and Gus Atkinson. Record Tally Surpasses Kohli, Ponting And Williamson

The milestone also places Rohit at the top of the all-time list for most ODI runs by a visiting batter in England, with a tally of 1501* runs. This tally sees him move past several modern greats, including Virat Kohli, Kane Williamson, and Ricky Ponting.

Once Josh Tongue was introduced into the attack, Rohit shifted gears dramatically, cashing in on anything short or straying onto the pads. He launched two towering sixes over backward square leg while continuing to find the gaps with precise, well-placed boundaries rather than relying purely on brute force — a display that underlined why he remains one of the format’s most destructive openers.
